While duties of the School Counselor may vary slightly between schools and districts, here is an overview of what is offered at Brecknock Elementary.
Individual Counseling: one-on-one check-ins, conflict resolution, peer mediation, grief and loss
Small Group Counseling: topics include worry, changing families, social skills, self-esteem, impulse control, self-regulation, etc.
Developmental Guidance Lessons: Each class receives Developmental Guidance Lessons bi-weekly. Topics taught include coping skills, conflict resolution, time management, making friends, bullying, etc.
Student Assistance Program: Mrs. Cole is the coordinator of Brecknock's Student Assistance Program (SAP). This group looks to identify any barriers to learning a student may have and creates interventions to be implemented at school. If you are looking for resources to help with your child or family, please reach out to Ms Davis or your child's teacher.
Multi-tiered System of Support Team: As a member of the MTSS, Mrs. Cole participates in identifying academic, behavioral, and social-emotional challenges individual students may be facing and providing appropriate interventions as the need arises.
Community Resources: providing information regarding community resources such as counseling agencies and crisis centers.

Consultation: with parents, teachers, and additional district personnel
504 Service Agreements: Ms. Davis is the case manager for students who have a 504 Accommodation plan.
