What is PBIS?

Positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) is an approach schools use to promote school safety and good behavior. With PBIS, schools teach kids about behavior expectations and strategies. The focus of PBIS is prevention, not punishment.

Second step
WHAT IS SECOND STEP FOR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS?

Second Step is a research-based social-emotional learning curriculum that equips students with the tools needed to succeed in and out of the classroom. Second Step utilizes games, activities, and media to develop social-emotional skills. Lessons focus on topics such as skills for learning, empathy, emotion management, and problem solving. All students receive the Second Step curriculum at Spaulding Elementary School!

At Spaulding we utilize Class Dojo as a way to encourage students to Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Problem Solvers. Class Dojo is also used as an opportunity for students to engage in self-reflection regarding behaviors that may need more practice. A STEPS system allows students to conference with teachers and staff when skills may need to be addressed.
