Upper School

Dear Upper School Saints,

The faculty and I are so disappointed that we have not seen our students this week on campus, but I know that we will make the most of a challenging situation. The faculty has worked extremely hard this week preparing our online learning program so that it will be meaningful and engaging to our students. Our faculty have been students this week in learning some new techniques to make our new learning program viable. We will pick our learning where we left off for break and learn everything that was designed for this year. Our seniors will be able to graduate, and our underclassmen will be prepared for next year. We have postponed Prom, hopefully to May 9th.

Late this afternoon a detailed slideshow with my narration will be posted online on the COVID 19 webpage that will go over all the major details that you will need to know. A PDF of the slideshow will also be posted that you can refer to when you need to. Starting Monday, all students will need to be on Google Chrome and use their Google calendar functions. We will post everything students need by Monday morning at 10:00 so that they can log onto My SA and find all the information which has been posted by all faculty at this location. We are using a different schedule so that students will not be overwhelmed and expected to follow a six day, six period rotation. We do not expect online learning to be exactly the same as students have experienced in face-to-face classroom settings, but we are excited about the new opportunities online learning will provide for us.

The faculty and support staff are committed to offer the same support to our students that we have always done. Office hours for support staff is from 8:30-2:30. We are asking faculty to let 5:00 to 9:00 pm be the deadline for any work that is due at a specific time.

We are expecting students to uphold the Honor Code which is so vital to the culture of St. Andrew’s and be their best selves online. This is a golden opportunity for our students to continue and hone the moral code that hopefully they will follow the rest of their lives.

In the morning, I will send parents a Google Hangout invitation to join me from 10:30-11:30 if you have questions. The email will give you the link to click on with some instructions. I hope after you hear the presentation tonight, you will understand better the how and the what of what we are doing. I look forward to your questions.

Take care,

Julia
