Science 3 - Physical Science Syllabus
Teacher: Phil Moorhouse (pmoorhouse@goddardusd.com)
Overview:
Science 3 will be based on a study of Physical Science to include introductions to Chemistry and Physics. We will start our year investigating forces and motion, simple machines, electricity and magnetism, sound and light. We will conclude the year with concepts of Chemistry such as matter, atoms and the Periodic Table, chemical bonds and equations, solutions, and thermal energy. As we go through the year the overarching theme will be how to “think like a scientist” and how to use various scientific tools.
How can you succeed?
· Attendance is crucial. We learn new information every day. As soon as your child misses two classes – for whatever reason – you will receive contact from myself or a school employee. We will follow the school policy on both absences and tardies.
· Show up for class on time with all materials ready to begin by the time the bell rings.
· Respect EVERYONE in the class.
· Cell phones will not be used in class. The new Kansas legislation has addressed that cell phones will not be available at any time during class unless there is a specific exception for medical or IEP purposes. This exception must be on file in the office.
Parents, please make sure your contact information is correct and current. If I, or another school employee, cannot reach you we cannot inform you of any concerns or compliments.
Homework:
* I do not assign very much homework – most work is done in class. However, if a student does not complete the assignment in the time given, he or she is required to take that work home, complete it and return it by the next class period.
* Students will receive projects over Winter and Spring Break which must be turned in when they return to school.
