2024 One Act Play Company
As the first Theatre Productions class in the Brownsboro Bear Theatrix program, BJH Theatre Productions is our award-winning varsity theatre class at the Junior High level focusing on introducing, teaching, and creating the future generations of our theatre program. This is an audition-based class that competes in UIL's One-Act Play (OAP) competition in December and puts on a Spring Show in April. At the end of each academic year, students will audition for a spot in the company as either an actor or technician and requires mandatory after-school rehearsals if admitted.
OAP is the Texas UIL theatre competition known as One-Act Play and is one of the biggest official theatre competitions in the world. Typically taking place in December, schools from our district come together to each put on a one-act play to be adjuticated by a panel of 3 judges. Each school is given 7 minutes to set up their show, 19-40 minutes to perform, and 7 minutes to strike the set. After each show, a judge will deliver notes and critiques privately to the cast, crew, and directors. Once every show has finished their performance and critiques, the 3 judges will select students to individually award tech and acting awards between all competing schools including Honor Crew, All-Star Cast Honorable Mention, All-Star Cast, and 2 Best Performer awards, as well as tallying the judges' rankings and scores to award the top 3 scoring shows.
Unlike the high school equivalent that has the top 3 scoring shows advance through multiple levels (District, Bi-District, Area, Region) until State, junior high's One-Act Play competition is only held at the District level competing to place as one of the top 3 scoring shows.
Win or lose, place or not, it is always guarateed to be an amazing day of theatre!
