Environment
Each Apple product represents an opportunity to reduce carbon footprint, even small changes can yield significant results. We priortize the materials and components that account to a significant proportion of our carbon emissions.
Use recycled materials to lower our product carbon footprint
Material selection is a way to reduce the carbon footprint for our products. Our strategy is to transit to materials manufactured using low-carbon energy and recycled components. Aluminum is a great example of Apple's comprehensive approach. In 2015, aluminum represented over a quarter of our product manufacturing footprint. Switching to recycled and low-carbon aluminum has decreased our carbon emission associated with aluminum by 2015.
Energy efficiency
We focus on using less energy across our products, beginning with how we design, operate, and maintain our facilities.
Data centers are traditionally energy-intensive, requiring significant resources to cool the heat-generating equipment. By deploying server design and developing energy and computing efficiency, we result in over 56.7 million kilowatt-hours per year in energy savings.
Increasing access to clean energy around the world
Access to clean energy creates opportunities within communities while benefiting climate change. We launched the initiative in 2019 to provide underresourced communities with renewable power while supporting economic growth and social impact.
Currently support 20 renewable projects including Israel, Nigeria, South Africa, Zumbia, etc.
