2nD EDITION OF PRE-PRIMARY TO GRADE 9 NOVA SCOTIA AT HOME LEARNING. (accessible Version)

Welcome to the 2nD edition of Primary to Grade 9 Nova Scotia at Home Learning.

While there is no way to replace what happens in the classroom, we can work together to help students stay engaged in learning. This package has been created by educators from all Regional Centres for Education and Conseil scolaire acadien provincial to ensure that all students have access to quality learning experiences. Families with internet or cell phone access can also download this package at https:// curriculum.ednet.ns.ca . Teachers will have additional ideas about how to create learning opportunities for your child, particularly for students who have adaptations and/or Individualized Program Plans. Teachers will work out the best methods for each student in partnership with you.

As this is new to all of us, we will continue to work together to find the best solutions to support student

well-being and achievement. At home learning, whether it is in online, or through the paper package, is designed to support you and your children, and not add to the stress of your particular circumstances. Access will continue for student support services such as SchoolsPlus. For those who require additional supports, we ask that you contact their teacher and/or principal.

Nova Scotia’s Learning Continuity Plan was released on March 31. This plan makes it possible for P-12 students to learn at home using a variety of tools.

Assignments and projects, bi-weekly at-home learning packages for P-9, and direct connection with their teachers and other support staff will provide for learning in new ways. For information about the Learning Continuity Plan for Primary to Grade 12, visit the Depart- ment of Education and Early Childhood Development website: https://www. ednet.ns.ca/

Please consider incorporating physical activity into every day. It is not only important for physical health but also for mental health.

Living Well

Physical Activity

Being physically active daily benefits all aspects of health including social, emotional and physical well-being. The recommended time of sixty minutes of physical activity every day not only enhances physical and mental health but it also eases anxiety and supports good sleep.

Healthy Habits

Healthy Habits an important part of leading a healthy lifestyle. Studies show that good nutrition, proper sleep and hydration has a positive effect on emotional well-being and academic learning.

Building Relationships

Relationships are a vital part to the social, mental and emotional well-being of our students. Healthy relationships involve communication, respect, trust and kindness. For the well-being of students, it is important that they participate in activities where they are able to demonstrate and practice some of these qualities on a daily basis.

Mindfulness:

Intentionally pausing to become aware of your thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations and your environment. It is being present in the moment. Being ‘mindful’ is the first step in being calm, alert and available for learning. You get better by practicing each day. Try to set one or two times throughout the day to pause. Your body and your ‘learning brain’ will love it!

This is a very challenging time for you, our families and students. We are committed to supporting your health and well-being and have developed a series of activities to help you be healthy and happy.
