The Guidance Counselor’s role is to assist in the overall well-being of the students during their time at South Queens. Counseling sessions may explore decision-making, academic/career related topics, relationships, drugs & alcohol and sexuality. The counselor’s role is to be an advocate for the student and to provide them with information so that they may make educated decisions themselves. Other services include small group counseling, mediation, studying skills, anti-bullying strategies and dealing with real life issues. A learning disability is a difference in brain structure that affects an individual's ability to receive process or express information. The diagnosis should be brought to the attention of the student's teacher and/or principal. Consultative service is available at all grade levels for students identified as having a learning disability.
