Online Update- April 28, 2021

Good Morning SQMS Families, As we head into this 2 week shut down for schools,

we know there are things here at school that the students will need to be successful for their online learning experience. In saying this, the school will be open tomorrow (Thursday, April 29) from 8:00am until 1:00pm for families to come pick up things such as Chomebooks, musical instruments, textbooks, novels, etc.

If there are other things that the student has left behind and would like, please phone the school at 902-354-7640 or email at sqms@ssrce.ca

If these times do not work for your schedule, please reach out to us and we will accommodate you as much as possible.

Thank you for your continued support as we ride this wave together.

COVID-19 Update- April 26, 2021

Dear SQMS Families, There were a number of new restrictions announced at today’s COVID-19 provincial briefing.

Beginning immediately, the community use of schools is suspended until further notice and any event between two or more schools is cancelled. SSRCE schools are still currently permitted to have afterschool practices/intramurals only.

Currently, SSRCE’s schools remain open for in-person learning. According to a number of health experts, in-person schooling remains the best place for children’s social, emotional, physical and mental well-being. With that said, we remain prepared to make the switch to an at home learning model, should we be directed to do so by Public Health.

Understandably, this is an anxious time. Please know, if there’s a case of COVID-19 identified in any of our schools, Public Health will advise us immediately and the school community will then be contacted.

Families who choose to keep their children home will not be receiving special at home work packages. If work is available through google classrooms as part of the teacher’s regular routines, students may access these learning materials. If parents are looking to keep their children home on a long-term basis, they should refer to Nova Scotia’s Office of Homeschooling.

We thank you for your ongoing cooperation.

We are excited to be starting the process for your child to attend SQMS in the Fall of 2021.

This message is regarding the French Immersion Program. Today Mr. Tutty visited each Grade 5 classroom at DJCWA and gave the students information regarding the program. Also, below is a Google Form with some questions for you to answer.

If your child is interested in becoming a French Immersion student in Grade 6, please fill out the Google Form; in addition, fill out the application and return it to your child’s Grade 5 teacher by Monday, May 3 as this is the cut off date for applications.

Chromebooks

Hello Families! Just a reminder that students should be bringing their school issued Chromebooks to school everyday, charged and ready to go.

Students are not permitted to use their phones for work completion- this is because all students have access to a Chromebook from the school (or they have their own tablet, computer, etc.).

If there is an issue remembering the Chromebook for the students then they should be keeping them in their classrooms.

Thank you for your co-operation!
