Below are some of the major recognition awards that may be given to WHS students
Queen Elizabeth II Medal
The Queen Elizabeth II Medal has three criteria for its recipient: has demonstrated a superior achievement in school studies in all three years of high school; has achieved an outstanding record in all aspects of school and community involvement, and is graduating with a Nova Scotia High School Graduation Diploma. The recipient is nominated by the school scholarship committee. Administered by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
Lieutenant Governor's Education Medal
Administered by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. Students are nominated by their school, based on academic performance, qualities of leadership and service demonstrated in their school and community. Open to all grade 11 high school students. One student is selected per school, and awards are traditionally presented annually by the Lieutenant Governor at special ceremonies around Nova Scotia.
Lieutenant Governor Respectful Citizenship Award
This award recognizes those who have developed a project or activity that demonstrates leadership and commitment to creating safe and inclusive spaces in schools and communities in Nova Scotia.

WHS Citizenship Awards
Special awards given in recognition of demonstrated outstanding leadership and service in diverse areas over their years at WHS
WHS Humanitarian Award
This award is presented to a graduating student, who in the opinion of the principal and faculty, exhibits outstanding qualities of citizenship and scholastic endeavors; qualities which will enable the student to make an excellent contribution to the community at large.
WHS Leadership Medal
WHS’ most prestigious citizenship award; presented to a graduating student who has consistently demonstrated outstanding commitment, leadership, and citizenship over the past three years.
WHS Teachers’ Award
This award is selected based on nominations by the teaching staff and is presented to the graduating student who has shown superior qualities with a record of service to WHS over the past three years.
WHS Panthers’ Paw Award
This award is presented to a graduating student, who in the opinion of the administration, exhibits outstanding qualities of leadership and work ethic.
PAWEECA Scholarship
Awarded to a student who demonstrated an environmental commitment, community service and leadership throughout high school. Maintained a commendable level of academic achievement and participated in volunteering and school extracurricular activities.
