Winter Concert on December 11th (Storm Date: Dec 18th) - IMPORTANT DETAILS
The NGES Winter Concert will be held on December 11th (storm date: Dec 18th) at 10:30 am and 1 pm. Our music teacher, Ms
Marchand, the students, and their classroom teachers prepare for weeks for the concert and each student is a vital part of
the performance. Keeping that in mind students are expected to be present for both show times and not go home after the
morning concert. Show times and seating capacity for fire regulations:
● We ask family and friends of students in the Pre-primary to Grade 2 Provo classes to
attend the 10:30 am show.
● We ask family and friends of students in grades 3 to Grade 6 to attend the 1 pm show.
● If you have a student in both the lower grades and upper grades please select one or the other
performance times. Larger families may choose to split up between the two times.
● We realize that this may be difficult for some and we appreciate your every attempt to follow these
guidelines as we have a seating capacity we must follow as set out in the fire regulations. If we
exceed this number we will be required to turn people away.
There is no cost to attend the Winter Concert but donations to our New Germany Family of Schools Free
Store are always welcomed and greatly appreciated.
Please note that our concert is a public event and therefore it is reasonable to expect that photographs and audio/video/digital recordings may be taken by those in attendance. Consequently, privacy cannot be expected. When events are public, it is reasonable to expect that photographs and/or taping will be taken by spectators, media, and schools. If you are taking photos and videos of your child, we ask that you be mindful of the fact that not all parents wish to have their child’s photo/video posted on social media. Please try to limit photos and videos to your child only, when possible.

New Host Families Required for International Students (Arriving September 2023)
SOUTH SHORE REGIONAL CENTRE FOR EDUCATION
Are you interested in an experience of a lifetime? Learning a new language? Learning about another culture? Sharing your love of the South Shore of Nova Scotia with someone new to the area?
If you are, we have a new group of international students (Grades 7-12) arriving on the South Shore in September 2023, and we would love for you to consider becoming a host family! These students will be here for a minimum of 4 weeks to a maximum of 10 months.
If you’re interested in trying out hosting, but aren’t sure about making a long-term commitment, please let us know. For example, there are times when we also need a few families to take students while another family is travelling just for a day or two.
You can also receive compensation for successful referrals. If you know someone who may be interested in hosting, please pass along this information. For every successful referral you make, you will receive $100.
Our SSRCE Nova Scotia International Student Program team is committed to making your experience great!

School Cafeteria Menu Information
Beginning March 27/23 we are moving closer toward a paperless method of payment for school related purchases. We will no longer be sending home a paper copy of the lunch menu. If you continue to pay in cash, a paper copy of the menu is available every weekend on our school website at www.nges.ednet.ns.ca under the tab "For Families/Cafeteria" for you to print. A completed copy of the menu must accompany any cash sent to the school for purchasing recess and/or lunch.
School Vouchers for Recess/Lunch
To redeem a school cafeteria voucher:
1) Omit a purchase of equal value during your online order for the upcoming week and submit the online order.
2) Note on the voucher which weekday the order is for and what the item, of equal value, is you are ordering.
3) Send the voucher in on Monday morning in your child’s communication folder for an item of equal value.
During morning start-up the student's communication folder is where teachers look for items like vouchers, pick-up notes and bus notes.
Missed lunch/recess vouchers are sent home in student communication folders and to keep our system organized, we require you wait until you receive the voucher to use it. Ms Tracy does them as quickly as possible. Please check your child’s communication folder for vouchers regularly and keep vouchers in a safe place as they are equivalent to cash to be redeemed when ordering recess/lunch items.
