Archived Announcements

Message From Principal April 28/21

Dear Families,

We are actively planning and working through details to begin online teaching on Friday. Like you, we received this information late yesterday. We recognize you have questions and we will be working to clarify details and schedules as we move forward.

You will be receiving an email from your teacher with class specific details. Later today you will also receive a schedule for possible pick up times if you need to get essential items to support online learning. Tomorrow we will send a schedule for your students online learning times to start on Friday as well as online class expectations.

We know this is a sudden change and you have questions. We ask for your patience as we navigate this current situation. Together we will work through this time and hope to see our students return as soon as possible.

Please reach out to either myself or your child’s teacher with concerns or questions.

Thank you,

Angela Gladwin

April 22/21 Update From SSRCE Regional Executive Director of Education

Dear school community,

This afternoon, the Premier and Dr. Strang announced a number of new restrictions throughout the province. As part of that announcement, masking in our schools will extend to all students (pre-primary to Grade 12) beginning tomorrow with full implementation by Monday, April 26, 2021.

While we recognize this is a change for some students, we also know in-school learning is what’s best for our children and believe this additional measure is appropriate given the current rise in cases.

The South Shore Regional Centre for Education continues to follow a layered approach to COVID-19, as outlined by Public Health. This includes, limiting outside visitors, increased handwashing, increased cleaning, social distancing, outdoor learning, and the use of masks. The ongoing commitment from students, their families, and staff to adhere to these Public Health guidelines has allowed us to have a very successful school year to date and we thank everyone for their ongoing cooperation.

Sincerely,

Paul Ash

SSRCE Regional Executive Director of Education

September 5, 2020

Good morning NGES families,

As promised, I am sharing your child’s teacher with you as it scheduled in our plan for full re-opening, which we are calling Scenario 1. Our school team has been working very hard to ensure that school is safe, welcoming and a happy place for your child. I commend them, as we were not only following and preparing for new health protocols, but working around a renovation.

Yesterday, we created a short video for you to share with your child. It gives you a snap shot of what arrival procedures will be as well as what the classrooms look like as they are set up now. You will also get a peak at some of the updates that give our school a brighter, refreshed feel. We wanted the students to see us all with our masks on too and feel more comfortable that it is still “just us” smiling behind them. We are hopeful that you will view this with your child if you can before Tuesday morning. You can find it on our school website and Facebook page later today.

You may also have heard that the pre-screening checklist for NS was revised yesterday afternoon. This replaces the one that I sent to you with our Back to School Plan. I will share a new one with once it is updated. This is now the criteria you will use to pre-screen each morning. The changes are now as follows:

Visit https://811.novascotia.ca to determine if you should call 811 for further assessment if in the past 48 hours you have had, or you are currently experiencing:

-- fever or cough (new or worsening)

Or:

Two or more of the following symptoms (new or worsening):

-- sore throat

-- runny nose

-- headache

-- shortness of breath

A few other important things to note:

• Please LABEL ALL supplies, clothing, lunch boxes, book bags, footwear, masks etc..clearly with your child’s name before sending to school. This is very important now.

• Please be sure to check the weather and dress your child to be outside. A raincoat, splash pants and rubber boats would all be a good investment if you can. We will be planning to be outside on the majority of the days for breaks. A change of clothes in their book bag is always recommended.

• Dismissal changes-Please send a written note if your child’s regular dismissal plan is changing to the teacher in the morning. We are not able to accept dismissal changes late in the day after 1:00pm. With numerous protocols and changes to the way we are doing things, we cannot guarantee the phones can be answered and changes be made in time for dismissal after that time. This change is to ensure the safety of your children.

We will continue to communicate details to you as things are shared with us. Please be sure to keep your contact information up to date, so we are able to share any updates with you when and if needed. We are excited to see our students on Tuesday morning and reconnect with them. We have missed them and the joy they bring to us. A school is just an empty building without the students. It is our relationship with them that matters most.

Enjoy your weekend,

Angela Gladwin

Principal

Thank You

Thank you staff and families! Staff worked to appropriately sort and pack student belongings that had been left behind after the unexpected non-return to school in March. I would like to thank our families for their cooperation in the pick up of belongings and returning of items to school this week. The process was safe and smooth and we hope that you have all of your things. The vast majority of items were picked up. If you need any further assistance with this, please let us know by emailing your child's classroom teacher, as you have been doing, or contact Ms. Gladwin at ngesprincipal@ssrce.ca. We will attempt to solve any remaining outstanding items. Thank you again for working with us to navigate through these unusual times.
