The IB Programme does not begin until the Grade 11 year. However, the province of Nova Scotia has created five classes for students in Grade 10 who may be interested in taking the full IB Diploma Programme. These classes follow provincial curriculum and explore concepts by developing critical thinking skills using a variety of teaching and assessing methods. Some IB style assessments are introduced in the CPA Pre-IB classes. A student who takes the CPA Pre-IB program, is not required to continue in the full IB Diploma Program. Alternatively, a student who does not take the CPA Pre-IB program, is still able to enter the full IB Diploma Programme in grade 11. A CPA Pre-IB student chooses from a set list of classes which include:
CPA Pre-IB Math 10
CPA Pre-IB English Language and Literature 10
French 10 or French Immersion 10
History 10
Science 10
Note: If a student is unsuccessful in either English 10/English 10 CPA Pre-IB or Math 10/Math 10 CPA Pre-IB they will not be eligible to enter the full IB Diploma Programme.
