Active Smarter Kids (A.S.K) is an evidence-based curriculum delivery model using Physically Active Learning (PAL) to integrate physical activity into core subject areas like math and literacy. We've partnered with the NS ASK Project to offer ASK tools and professional development to interested HRCE schools. Look HERE for more details.
There is a fantastic selection of playground stencils to enhance your school yard and increase physical activity and engagement outdoors. These can be used at break time as well as integrated into your outdoor learning lessons. If you have the space, use stencils to create fun circuits for students or place strategically in all appropriate spaces.
Once you have reviewed the catalogue and make your selections, email the library to borrow the stencils you are looking for at libraryorders@hrce.ca. The stencils will need to be picked up and returned through school volunteers with access to trucks/large vans, or by placing a work order with HRCE operations (they do not fit in the internal school courier van - this is not something they can always do). Paint will need to be purchased as well. We have included a local stencil paint distributor on the next page. Each stencil requires a specific amount of paint and some different colors. You can find this information in the catalogue with the stencil description.
This framework is rooted in a Health Promoting Schools approach. It will create conditions for students to move more and sit less in schools. The aim is to provide equitable and inclusive opportunities for all students to reach their potential for learning, development, and well-being.
