Daily reading is very important.

Students should be reading for meaning as well as enjoyment!

Reading has many parts. We will be focusing on decoding, fluency & comprehension.

Decoding

Involves taking apart the sounds in words (segmenting) and blending sounds together. It requires both knowledge of letter-sound relationships, as well as an ability to apply that knowledge to identify written words and make meaning.

Fluency

Fluency is the ability to read "like you speak." Hudson, Lane, and Pullen define fluency this way: "Reading fluency is made up of at least three key elements: accurate reading of connected text at a conversational rate with appropriate expression."
