Application forms for institutions can be downloaded, printed or submitted right from the institution’s website
Make sure you include the application fee (if there is one) and an official transcript
Always make sure you check to see the deadline for application and ensure you’ve applied in time
Early Acceptance - Certain universities accept applications in the Fall on the basis of Grade 11 academic marks.
Regular Acceptance - Primarily done on the basis of first semester grade 12 marks with some previous grade 11 or 12 academic courses from the grade 11 year. Students will usually apply in February with some exceptions outside the Maritime provinces. Notification of acceptance is usually sent out in March or April.
Acceptance Letters - Read the whole letter carefully and make sure that you let them know that you will be attending prior to the deadline. In the event that you decide to reject an offer of acceptance, as a matter of courtesy, we urge you to let the post-secondary school know of your intentions.
Deferred - If you grade 11/12 marks are low, you may get a deferred acceptance. In such a case, the institution needs further course results (mid-second semester marks or final June marks). Students may not receive final acceptance until July.
Denied - Please meet with your School Counsellor to consider other options.
Nova Scotia Community College:
NSCC stresses early applications (Sept to Nov). Most of their programs have limited enrollment and are filled on a first come, first served basis. Even though the actual deadline for applying is usually March 1st, students who wait until then may not get into their chosen program.
