UpLift
UpLift is a School-Community-University partnership that supports the health and learning of children and youth throughout Nova Scotia. UpLift is hosted within Dalhousie University’s Healthy Populations Institute, while operating in partnership with government, Nova Scotia Health, school communities, non-profits and the private sector.
UpLift is about creating environments that are healthy, vibrant, connected, safe and empowering. Embedded within Nova Scotia’s existing Health Promoting Schools model, UpLift means catalyzing action, sharing successes and creating the conditions for all children to achieve their health and learning potential. One of the ways UpLift supports CCRCE schools is through Student Action Grants. Every elementary and junior high school in CCRCE is eligible for a one-time $5,000 grant for a youth-led project. Youth engagement coordinators (YECs) help student groups assess the school health environment and select a project that addresses an identified need related to food, physical activity and/or mental health. YECs can also help secure other sources of funding for projects greater than $5,000.
If you're thinking of participating in UpLift this year, take some time to read the following sections before contacting Cameron Ure (YEC in Celtic/Nova families) at Cameron.ure@nshealth.ca, or Shali Manuel (YEC in Cobequid/Chignecto families) at Shali.manuel@nshealth.ca.
