GUIDELINES - PURCHASING APPS FOR iPADS

  • It is the responsibility of the school/teacher requesting an app(s) to consider our province's privacy laws and bias instrument as part of their app evaluations. Apps are not officially 'approved' at the regional centre level, however, if throughout this process it is discovered that there is a privacy or bias issue with a specific app requested, Instructional Support Technology will work with the school/teacher to try and find a suitable alternative for their needs. Here is the bias evaluation that may help, when thinking about whether or not an app is appropriate and or safe for student use. Search for the name of an app here.
  • Whether an app(s) is free or costs money, both instances are still considered a purchase. The school is to send their list of requested apps to the CBVRCE IEI consultant, Leanna Campbell-MacDonald ( lcmacdonald@gnspes.ca), including how many iPads the requested app(s) are to be installed on. The apps will be purchased at the Staff Development Centre and schools will be asked to submit a SAP request for installation, notifying the school technician that the app(s) are ready to be installed. Please CC the school principal on any communications. Apps requested for assistive technology should include consultant-Jessica Boudreau (boudreauj@gnspes.ca) on the email.
  • If there is a fee for the apps, the school or program director can purchase an Apple Volume Purchase Program credit through regular purchasing procedures, set by the CBVRCE Purchasing Department. VPP Credit Vouchers will be forwarded to the CBVRCE IEI consultant. Apps will be purchased by the IEI consultant, and schools will be asked to submit a SAP request for installation. To obtain a VPP credit, the school is to follow normal purchasing procedures (Requisition to CBVRCE Purchasing Department).
