4. Old Business
-Staffing: 2 new long term subs are here full time until end of year, no numbers yet for staffing for next year. One grade 6 next year, 36 grads this year.
-CYPC: Cheryl MacDonald’s position was lost, position was posted.
-Tech Program: Tommy Chubbs, all new equipment was received, Pilot project for this year, hoping it will be offered again next year.
-RCMP: Golf tournament money was donated $1000, bursary was eliminated so we will use $500 of the money for the bursary and $500 for food. Would like to see RCMP in the schools more often but we haven’t seen them here as often as needed due to their staffing issues.
-NSISP: Exchange student from France is here and enjoying it. Looking for host families for next year.
-Substitute teachers: interviewed a few individuals without BED who are looking to get their sub licence. Currently waiting to hear back.
-Prom/Grad: Tentatively Prom is Friday June 20th, Grad Ceremony June 26th, possibly grad supper at the Keltic, waiting hear from Keltic.
-Supervision: Still continues to be a questionable area, quieter in the winter because kids are not outside as often. The LBG job is not appealing enough to entice applicants. A letter will be shared to the group and then sent to the Center for Ed.
-Policies: Cell phone policy is going pretty well. Attendance is still an issue, support workers have stepped in and helped in some situations.
-Sports: wrapping up soon, cross country team did very well, volleyball went well, added senior boys team , basketball, middle (2 teams), senior. More teams have been willing to travel here this year. Middle school could possibly host regionals, looking for accommodations list to send out. Uniform rental of $40, to be returned once you give the uniform back. Volunteer coaches- reach out to community see if there might be people willing to coach soccer etc.
-Honours/Distinctions: Keep the ceremony in the spring this year but look at it again next year. Honours Banquet May 28th,
-Awards Ceremony: May 21st
-Fall SAC (Halifax): Large meeting, informative sessions, Dr. Strang talked about food insecurity, most NS are only sustainable for 3 days in natural disasters. Look for more funding to sustain food in school. Feedback- the meeting in Halifax was too far and costly, they will have another one next year.
-Regional SAC: Supposed to held in OCT due to provincial election and then winter started so it will be rescheduled in spring.
5. New Business
-EF Tour- Grades 11/12 are going to NY- 32 people with chaperones, teachers, students going March break.
-Grading day-Monday June 30th, if grading day falls on a Monday, they can do it on a Saturday
-SAC budget: just over $16,000. More graphing calculators for new math class are needed, not enough. Animals for dissection. Mr. McGuire is asking for audio recorder, system for camera outputs etc. Home and School asking for a warm an inviting area- school needs approval to be able to do it. Would the SAC contribute to the Honours banquet. Vote to contribute to the funding requests: Yes-Naomi, Patricia, Valerie, Faye, Corey, Tanner.
-School events: many events happening, requests from teachers to take students on field trips, 6 bowling, 7/8 skiing, 9s- unsure, 10s curling, 11/12 skating. Many basketball games, lots of community support, bring back the Danny Ainsley tournament- very positive, continue the tradition next year. Home and School is doing lots of meals and treats for students. Student council is doing a spirit week this week. Approached by music consultant to offer free lessons for grades 9-12 from Rachel and Darren, one day a week after school 8 week program. Sewing club, Dungeons and Dragons. Future events: Hockey day, basketball game.
-Cafeteria: The menu posted on the website is not being followed, portions are small, volunteer student working in the kitchen- please follow all sanitation requirements (hair net, gloves). Chartwells contract is up at the end of this year and it will be posted again.
