Do you need to register for a health card?
To register for a health card in Nova Scotia, you must contact the MSI Registration and Inquiry Department at 902-496-7008 or at 1-800-563-8880 (toll free within Canada), to start the application process. Learn more here: https://novascotia.ca/dhw/msi/health_cards.asp
Do you need to sign up with NS Need a Family Practice Registry?
If you do not have a primary care provider, or your provider is moving, retiring, or closing their practice, there are two ways you can join the registry:
Register online by using this link: https://needafamilypractice.nshealth.ca/
Register by phone by calling 811, Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. You must choose this option if you are new to Nova Scotia and do not have a Nova Scotia Health Card.

Through the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) and the Income Tax Assistance – Volunteer Program (ITAVP) in Quebec, community organizations host free tax clinics where volunteers complete tax returns for people with a modest income and a simple tax situation.

The Nova Scotia Provincial Housing Agency maintains, manages and operates public housing for low-income Nova Scotians. They help low-income individuals and families find a home that’s right for them, in a community that offers the services, supports and opportunities they need. You can submit an application online, by email, in person at one of our local offices or via mail.

Apply for a rent supplement: Canada-Nova Scotia Targeted Housing Benefit
The Canada-Nova Scotia Targeted Housing Benefit helps renters with the cost of their rent if they pay more than 40% of their pre-tax (gross) household income on the average market rent in their area (not the rent that they pay). You can apply any time.
