Ms. Lacy Thurman was born in Memphis, TN and grew up in Desoto County, MS where she currently resides. She loved music from a young age and started playing piano at five years old. In middle school, her family moved to Ohio where she was required to play an instrument and chose the violin. She developed a love of playing the violin and wanted to instill that love and passion for strings to others. She graduated from Belmont University in Nashville, TN where she studied music education. She studied violin with Alison Gooding and Sarah Cote. While attending Belmont, She participated in the Belmont Symphony and chamber orchestras, performed in string quartets, and was the president of the American String Teachers Association Collegiate chapter.
Ms. Thurman went on to pursue a Master of Music in music education at the University of Mississippi where she was a graduate assistant with the orchestra. Afterwards, she went on to teach general music for five years at a private school where she started a string orchestra. She has also taught general music in Fayette County Schools, music appreciation at Northwest Mississippi Community college, and has taught private violin lessons for the last eight years. She continues to play in Germantown Symphony, various churches, weddings, and other events. Ms. Thurman has attended many music education conferences and is a member of of the American String Teachers Association. Other than music, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, watching baseball, and walking her dog, Blaze.
