Mr. Short was born in Winter Haven, FL and starting taking violin lessons in the 5th grade. In the 7th grade, he switched to cello and fell in love with the rich low tones the instrument produced. Mr. Short attended college at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, FL and majored in Music Performance. His junior year, he was the winner of the Imperial Symphony Orchestra's concerto contest and performed the Saint-Saens Cello Concerto with the orchestra. Upon graduation, Mr. Short was offered a full assistantship to attend the University of Memphis where he studied with Peter Spurbeck and Leonardo Altino. Mr. Short began his teaching career with legacy Memphis City Schools where he taught Orff Music for 9 years. Mr. Short had adjudicated for several solo and concert festivals throughout the Memphis area and has performed with various Orchestras throughout the Mid-South.
Shortly after arriving in Memphis, Mr. Short met a beautiful and talented violinist named Heather and were married in December, 2003. They quickly began performing all around the metro area and started a business entitled Simply Strings. Their advertisement can be seen in Southern Bride magazine and are on the vendor list for various venues in town. To date, Simply Strings performs over 30 weddings a year, plays in worship bands and orchestras for various churches, and has recorded several recordings with a variety of artists. Heather teaches violin lessons from their home in Collierville, TN. They have 3 beautiful children, Hayden, Wyatt, and Gracelyn, and two dogs, Beau and Leisel.
