Biomedical Mustangs
A.L. Mebane Middle School Magnet Program
Mission Statement
Through collaborative learning, students engage in a biomedical program emphasizing hands-on learning, exploratory labs, research-based studies, and discovery activities in preparation for a successful biomedical pathway.
Biomedical Science Sequence Overview
The rigorous three-course Biomedical Science program allows students to investigate the roles of biomedical professionals as they study the concepts of human medicine, physiology, genetics, microbiology, and public health.
Students engage in real-world activities, such as investigating a mock crime scene, while learning foundational skills necessary for a biomedical career. They examine the human body and explore diseases while working collaboratively to understand and design solutions to the most pressing health challenges of today and the future. Mebane offers three Biomedical Science foundation courses during the students' enrollment in the magnet program.
Students will race to win the "Triple Crown" by completing all three years within the Biomedical Mustangs Magnet Program. Students will explore three main aspects of Biomedical studies:
Forensics and DNA Profiling
Biomechanics (Physics and Prosthetics)
Bioprocessing
Students explore biomedicine through these lenses in their Magnet elective course, all while learning academically rigorous core content.
