GCN turns verified upstream and downstream data into real mitigation numbers — not closed-loop claims, but the kind of trusted data that lets you design and prove circular pathways. EPR strategies (resale, repair, redesign, reuse) deliver 11–55x greater emissions mitigation than recycling alone.
DIVERSION DATA
Works the same way at the batch level: a DPP is created per shipment, sorters scan on receipt, and that scan is the verified event that triggers the EPR Reward. Manufacturer-reported production waste stays clearly labelled "Declared" until it's independently verified — GCN's Declared vs Verified principle applies everywhere.
The GCN platform creates full circular data per product - note, this does not indicate that the products are 'closed loop' however the mitigation metrics that is derived from verifiable upstream then downstream data is enormously valuable, especially in being able to secure trusted data that assist in designing circular pathways derived from trusted data, creating a data-driven circular economy.
Use GCN's unprecedented data with verifiable evidence of circularity and link to existing LCA, ESG data or link via APIs to created trusted metrics to communicate to the marketplace via existing channels and GCN's Circular Stories.
MITIGATION ACCOUNTING
When we look at avoided emissions and pollution, this is where mitigation metrics shows how Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) actions really do give us a bigger 'bang for our buck' - infact 11-55 times more emissions mitigation than recycling. Mitigation accounting is where we see the results from actions where pollution did not occur due to product life extension and circular strategies.
DIVERSION DATA FOR PDF PRESENTATION
A Diversion Data DPP is created per shipment/batch — accumulates upstream evidence (textile type, chemical content) plus weight of unusable material, RFID-tagged
Sorter/recycler scans on receipt → creates the verified event → triggers EPR Reward payment
Serves three audiences: brands (trusted diversion evidence for ESPR/EPR reporting), sorters (pre-aggregated data, faster processing), recyclers (accurate textile/chemical content for recycling formulae and certification
Diversion Data — Verified by Weight
When products or by-product materials can no longer be resold, rented, reused, or redesigned, they're diverted toward sorting and recycling. As this batch moves through the Downstream Network, its Diversion Data — condensed onto a single RFID tag — travels with it, carrying the essential product information a Sorter or Recycler needs, along with the batch's total weight.
When the Sorter or Recycler receives the batch, they scan this single tag to confirm receipt and verify where the material is headed next — decommissioning, remanufacture, or fibre-to-fibre recycling. This scan is a genuine, verified event, not a self-reported claim.
This verified weight is what supports the EPR Reward — the contribution Brands make toward the real transport and logistics costs of moving diverted material through the circular chain. Because the batch weight is captured and confirmed at the point of receipt, the resulting reward is grounded in an actual, checkable event, not an estimate.
This also means Sorters and Recyclers don't need to separately track or report weight for reward purposes — it's already part of the Diversion Data captured when the batch was created and confirmed again when they receive it.
CIRCULAR METRICS — ADDITIONAL SELF-REPORTING FROM PRODUCT MANUFACTURERS
GCN encourages brands to request information from their Product Manufacturer production waste (fabric offcuts, cutting-room scraps) to add to their Circular Metrics. Since that material is pre-consumer and was never individually tagged — there's nothing to scan, plus it's also typically already covered commercially within the Manufacturer's existing invoicing relationship with the Brand.
Requested data point for Circular Metrics - Additional Recommended Data Point (Manufacturer Production Waste)
GCN adds this Production Waste / Offcuts (self-reported by Brand, sourced from their Product Manufacturer) and requests
Reporting period (e.g. per batch, per season, or annual)
Total production waste weight (kg) or % of material input
Waste destination/handling (e.g. sent to recycler, remanufacturer, landfill — brand's own knowledge/declaration)
Manufacturer/facility name (optional, links to existing Facility Records if already on file)
Important distinction - these data point are clearly labeled as self-reported, distinct from the independently Sorter/Recycler-verified Diversion Data. Brands' Circular Stories and Metrics reporting will reflect this honestly — e.g. "Production waste: [X]kg (brand-reported)" rather than presenting it with the same verified status as genuine Diversion Data events. This matches GCN's consistent evidence-status principle used throughout the platform (Declared vs. Verified).
Where it goes into the Circular Metrics: Same downstream destinations as verified Diversion Data — Circular Metrics reports and Circular Stories — is visually/structurally distinguishable from verified data wherever both appear together, so viewers (including regulators) can tell the difference between a brand's own claim and an independently confirmed event.
