Our team, Supporting People in Need, will be partnering with Goochland Cares. We will be volunteering with, donating to, and raising money for their organization.
Shocking Statistics
Goochland Cares provided food, housing, and other basic needs for 2,528 Goochland neighbors.
Each family has to make around $106k to afford a normal home in Goochland County.
The Goochland Cares Food Pantry provided meals for more than 732 families in 2021.
In 2022, it was estimated that there were over 38 million people in America with food insecurity.
About 22 percent of kids nationwide are homeless.
68 percent of the homeless population was in emergency shelters, transitional housing programs, or safe havens in 2016.
The number of homeless people in the United States could fill five football stadiums.
Did you know that if a family of four has a total income of less than $27,750, they are considered impoverished? Poverty happens for many reasons. It commonly occurs because of conflict, hunger, or poor health care systems. Unfortunately, this is not uncommon.
You may have a friend who is struggling at home but doesn’t feel comfortable telling anyone. If you think you know anyone who needs help, direct them to a soup kitchen or invite them to come over for a meal. You can also donate clothes, money, and canned foods to a charity that helps others. Did you know Backpacks of Love has delivered 1,000+ meals for 7 days to kids and filled over 95,000 backpacks? Some people don’t have enough food because they spend most of their money on paying bills and buying gas for their cars.
Goochland assists many people who can’t afford basic needs. There are lots of organizations that help with this cause. The YMCA provides services such as fitness classes, reading classes, and lots of other helpful resources to people who need them. Goochland Cares is a non-profit business that supplies people with food, clothes, water, and other basic human needs. We hope to inspire people to help community members who are in need of basic necessities.

Mentors
Dominic Alexander
Dominic Alexander is the Volunteer Coordinator for Goochland Cares. He has been there for almost half a year, and he is super excited for his journey helping others. We enjoyed interviewing him along with Rhonda Weaver on February 2 and learned so much about how Goochland Cares supports people in need. All this information has helped us with our research for Youth United. We are very excited to be partnering with him and the rest of Goochland Cares!
Rhonda Weaver
Rhonda Weaver is the Clothes Closet Manager at Goochland Cares. She has worked at Goochland Cares for 10 years. She manages and sorts all the clothing that is dropped off there and puts it out for people in need. Whenever a new client comes in she's eager to get to know them. She taught us all about what she does as a manager. We are so excited for Ms. Weaver to be partnering with us!
Our team hopes to change the lives of multiple people in our community! We want to EMPOWER everyone around us to help those in need, EXPLORE new learning opportunities with Goochland Cares, and EVOLVE into growing students who want to help in their community. We are going to support our community by doing food drives, clothing drives, and volunteering at Goochland Cares. You can help support our community too!
YOU can help those in need by donating non-perishable foods like canned beans, corn, or peanut butter! Another product to donate to Goochland Cares is clothes without stains, like socks, shirts, or towels! They will give clothes and food to people in poverty or who are homeless.
$20 per shirt. All proceeds go to Youth United!
Email us at youthunitedglnd@gmail.com to get your t-shirt.
Meet the Team!
We are dedicated young learners who hope to change the lives of many people! We have a drive for success, and we hope you embark on this adventure with us.
