1:1 Device Repair Protection Program
As part of Goochland County Public Schools' 1:1 Deeper Learning Initiative, we offer a voluntary repair protection program to help families manage the cost of accidental damage to school-issued devices. This program is funded through a small annual student fee and offers a cost-effective alternative to traditional third-party insurance.
Instead of contracting with an outside provider, GCPS pools device fee funds at each school to cover repairs throughout the year. Families who do not participate in this program are responsible for all repair or replacement costs of the loaned device.
What's Covered:
The following devices are eligible for coverage under this program:
MacBook Air laptops (grades 9–12) — valued at $649
iPad Air 2 tablets (grades 3–8) — valued at $394
MacBook charger — replacement cost $50
Benefits of Participation:
Accidental damage is covered up to the full replacement cost of the iPad, MacBook, and MacBook charger.
If a device must be replaced, an additional fee can be paid to continue participation in the program.
For second and subsequent incidents requiring repair, coverage is available up to $100. A meeting with school administration is required to receive a replacement, and an additional fee may apply to continue coverage.
Important: Students or parents must report repair needs immediately to school staff.
What's Not Covered:
The following items are not covered by the program:
iPad cases
iPad cords and chargers
These items must be returned in good working condition at the end of the school year. If the charging equipment or case is damaged beyond normal wear and tear, families may:
Purchase replacements at cost from GCPS, or
Provide compatible replacements when returning the device.
Annual Fees
iPad (Grades 3–8): $20 per student
MacBook (Grades 9–12): $30 per student
If equipment is damaged beyond repair, families may pay the fee again to re-enter the program and receive a replacement device. If you have any questions about the program, please contact your school’s main office.
