Mental Health & Academic Balance

When embarking on your educational journey, it is important to find balance in your life. There are a few adages I like to remind students and parents of when selecting activities and course work .

1.  There are only 24 hours in a day; Balance your time

2. Want vs. Need & Quality over Quantity

3. It's a marathon, not a sprint

4. You can do it all, just not at the same time

5.  Be Realistic; focus on steady improvement

6.  Communicate with teachers

7.  Access your resources

It’s important that parents and students keep academic rigor in balance. Too much academic rigor can degrade achievement, squeeze out other activities (including sleep, a must-have for developing minds and bodies), and create stress and anxiety for students. There is a balance to be achieved whereby students demonstrate their academic strength, investigate areas of academic interest, and have balanced, healthy lives. This is the ultimate goal.
