Reading Levels

In the beginning of the school year, we spend a lot of time in class learning how to choose "good fit" book.  A "good fit" book is a book that students can read and understand.  If books are too difficult, it can lead to frustration and inability to understand the story.  When this happens, reading is no longer enjoyable! We want children to enjoy reading in a successful way.  This means that children should be reading books they are interested in, but that are also on their reading level.  Research also shows that students are more motivated to read when they choose their own books.

Your child's "independent" reading level is derived from their DRA (Developmental Reading Assessment) score administered in the beginning of the year and will be shared with you and your child.  Click HERE for a great resource to help you find books on your child's reading level.  The links below are helpful resources as well.
