Birthdays are celebrated in our class and are very important to us. Students can (but are not required to) plan a 15-minute activity to celebrate their special day with the class. Edible treats are not permitted. Please read below for celebration alternatives.
Have your child read a story to the class and then donate the book to Ridgewood Library in your child’s name.
Have your child read a favorite story to the class and create a simple follow-up project for it.
Come in and do a small craft with your child in the class (see www.orientaltrading.comfor great ideas).
Send in a "loot bag" with non-food ideas such as pencils, erasers, stickers or puzzles.
Create a mural or pictures of your child through the years and let him/her share it with the class. Make it into a guessing game for the class to participate and guess the age or activity.
Have your child play their favorite group game with the rest of the class, i.e. Charades, Hangman, Outburst, 7 Up, or free time for the class.
Create an unusual birthday hat at home and have your child wear it on his special day.
Create a riddle for each child in the class. The class will then try to answer the riddles.
Create a word search for each child in the class and the words could be from your child’s life experiences or favorite things.
Have your child teach the class how to do something that they know well, i.e. a card game, draw cartoons, a dance move, a song.
While adhering to our school policy, we want to make sure that the day is special for your child. At the same time, we also want the kids to have an equal amount of time, so whatever it is that you decide to do with your child for his or her birthday, please keep in mind that it is a 15 minute activity.
