Top Tip for Guardians
The Executive Functioning Committee is continuing to share skills to support our students. For anyone looking to develop their students’ or their own executive functioning, this week we will be offering information around supporting emotional self-regulation & using a digital assignment notebook. It is important to recognize the connection between emotions, stress levels, and behaviors, and how it pertains to test-taking and other stressful situations in life. Being able to self-regulate in times of stress is a skill that will carry through to college, vocational settings, and life beyond. Here are a few quick tips to get started:
Have a conversation with your teen regarding their expectations for themselves. That way, you can be on the same page, identify where they are emotionally, and determine how much assistance they might want from you.
When working with your teen, it is important to recognize your own emotions and thoughts regarding expectations for grades and how they could be impacting your interactions with your child. Be self-aware about how your views can impact this process.
Try pre-planning fun or stress-reducing activities for your teen to provide breaks.
If your student has not been using the digital assignment notebook this year, the start of the semester is a great time to start. Students should review our new video tutorial for a refresher!
