School-to-Home Connection

  • Remember that your child should be reading at least 25 minutes and logging their reading every night Monday through Thursday (every day is best, but those are the assigned reading nights).
  • As we finish up our unit on reading fiction, I encourage you to help your child continue to "read with grit." This includes sticking with one book from start to finish, envisioning, asking questions, predicting, thinking about the author's purpose, gathering information, identifying the main idea, and more.
  • Soon to come: We will begin our Informational Writing unit. Help your child brainstorm some topics they know a lot about.

Classroom Update

  • We are soon having our Personal Narrative publishing celebration. The class is going to do a "Museum Walk" and give feedback on a Stars (compliments) and Wishes (suggestions) page.
  • We are soon wrapping up our Social Studies unit "Our Global Communities," and expect to be finished with "Animals and Their Habitats," our Science unit, by the beginning of December.
  • Our class has been doing an amazing job as Mathematicians. Students are modeling their thinking daily and practicing how to have conversations about their math by using "Let's Talk!" bookmarks. The bookmarks have a bank of sentences starters such as "I notice that you..." and "Can you show me ..."
