Reader's Workshop

Math

We are working with addition of two digit numbers within 100. We are continuing to explore communities. Students will study the skills of geography, economics, and citizenship in the context of learning about communities. We will learn how about natural resources are used for clothing, food, and shelter. Students will also discuss goods and services in our community and talk about how they can be a smart consumer.

Science

We will continue our first science unit, Earth: Our Changing Planet. Students will learn more about soil and how erosion and weathering happens over time. To deepen student understanding of the effects of erosion and to develop engineering skills, students will follow the Engineering Design Process to create an apparatus to stop beach erosion. In this series of lessons students will follow the Engineering Design Process to determine which materials are best at stopping the sand from eroding from the beach.
