Room Assignments
Rooms are guaranteed for J-CIP:A participants, so you do not need to apply for housing. You will be assigned to an-on campus dormitory on campus (Komachi Hall, Global Village, Sakura Village or Tsubaki Village) and room allocation will be determined by AIU. Specific room assignments and information about your roommate/suitemate(s) will be announced upon your arrival. We are not able to provide information such as names, nationalities, and contact information of your roommate/suitemate(s) in advance.
We do not accept any room requests, such as specific roommate/suitemate selection, or single-use. If you need to be allocated in a specific room due to the diagnosis conditions, please apply for reasonable accommodation.
Payment For Damage to On-campus Residences
You are required to pay for damages before checking out of the residences. If you share a room, the cost of damages will be divided between both students unless responsibility for the damage is identified by AIU as having been caused by only one of the students. If damage is found in common areas such as the lobby, the kitchen, and hallways, all residents will be responsible for the repair of the damage on a prorated basis per resident. We expect all students to take proper care of AIU facilities.

Extracurricular activities are parts of important elements for your student life in Japan. To deepen your experience and make friends from all over the world, please consider joining the club. There are many club activities that welcome exchange students.
Maintaining good health is important to successfully complete the program. If you are concerned about your health, please speak with your doctor about how you can cope with your health issues while at AIU and prepare yourself in ways such as preparing for the onset of an illness or bringing medicines you are accustomed to taking at home. You may have been managing well on your own in your home country, but studying abroad can be more physically and mentally demanding due to the new environment. In fact, some students experience additional difficulties while adjusting to culture shock or after the 'honeymoon period' of their study abroad ends. In Akita, there are few medical facilities that speak English, and it may be difficult to receive appropriate medical services as you would receive in your home country due to the language barrier and communication difficulties. Please understand that in the event that a hospital visit becomes necessary, AIU staff is unable to provide support such as transportation to the hospital or interpretation.
Please read 'Preparation for your stay' if you need to bring medication to Japan.
If you feel sick during your stay...
Winter is a time when infectious diseases (such as influenza and infectious gastroenteritis) are particularly prevalent. Please take precautions such as increasing the humidity in your room, getting good nutrition and sleep, and wearing a mask when in crowded places. If you feel ill, stay in your room(do not attend classes including field trips, crowded places) and notify instructors that you are ill.
