Please note that application procedures consist of two separate steps. First, students are required to submit the necessary documents through ANU’s system by August 10. After October 1, ANU will officially nominate students to AIU and register their information on the AIU Online Application Portal. Once AIU confirms the nomination, AIU will send students their login ID and password so that they can begin the AIU application procedures.
Please submit the following documents through Terra Dotta by August 10.
1.Personal Statement of purpose
Please write it in English (300-500words). There is no specific format.
2. Reference Letter
You need to submit one copy. Please ask your academic advisor or professor who best knows about your academic ability and Japanese language proficiency.
【Format】
After ANU has officially nominated students and registered their information on the AIU Online Application Portal, AIU will send them their login ID and password. Students should begin their AIU application procedures once they receive the login information.
Please note that the AIU Online Application Portal will be used throughout the entire application process, including the submission of required documents such as the Medical Form and Arrival Form.
After completing the online application, please scan all application documents and email them to international@gl.aiu.ac.jp by October 31.Applications that arrive after the deadline may not be processed.
Please scan each application document as an individual pdf file, and attach them to your submission email. (Please do not combine multiple documents into a single file.)
1. Completed, signed Application Form (pdf)
– After completing the online application, print the entire completed online application. Applicants and their study abroad coordinator must complete, sign,
and date the last page. (Note: this page is not visible online, but is included in the print file) If there is no International Office at applicants’ home institutions,
their academic advisors must complete the section on the last page.
– After both applicants and their study abroad coordinators have signed and dated the last page of the completed application, applicants must scan and submit ALL PAGES of the Application Form.
2. Official academic transcript in English (pdf)
– Academic Transcript must show course titles, credits, and grades for each semester.
– Applicant Enrollment Status and GPA must meet the eligibility requirements.
3. Digital ID-style photo (jpg)
– Taken within 3 months of submission
– At least 800 px x 600 px, jpg or png format
– Front-facing, showing from the shoulders up
– Clear, high resolution
– No hats
– Must be unedited photo with no image manipulation or processing
– Must not show a smile with visible teeth
– Plain white background
– Color or grayscale is acceptable
– No shadows
4. Photocopy of passport (pdf)
– A valid passport that covers the entire duration of your study abroad program
– Page with your photograph and biographical details
AIU will review students’ application documents and conduct an online interview as part of the screening process. All applicants will receive an email regarding the interview schedule after AIU completes the document review.
Successful applicants will receive an acceptance notification email by mid-November. After receiving the acceptance notification, please proceed with the following procedures.
Successful Applicants will receive an invoice through Flywire. Please follow the instructions on the invoice to complete the payment. If you have any questions about the payment process or how to use Flywire, please contact Flywire directly.
Completion of payment by the due date constitutes confirmation of the student’s participation in the program. Admission to the program will be canceled if the payment is not made by the deadline.
Please note that it may take a few days for your wire transfer through Flywire to reach AIU. Therefore, we strongly recommend completing the payment process well before the deadline to ensure that the payment is received on time.
If Flywire service is not available in the student’s country of residence, students must contact AIU for guidance on how to make the payment by a different method. In either case, students are required to complete the payment by December 1.
The form consists of three sections.
Part I: Online Medical Information
Part II: Completed by Physician
Part III: Medical Treatment Authorization and Consent Form (completed by Parent, Guardian or Next of Kin)
Please scan all sections and submit them by email.
All students need to submit the Arrival Form through the Online Portal.
Students can apply for the Pick-Up Bus service through the same form.

Please do your own research and take responsibility for the procedures for obtaining your visa and verify any residency requirements to participate in the program. If you have any questions about visas, please contact your nearest Japanese Embassy or Consulate-General in your country of residence.

Procedure for applying for a visa:
If your country is not a visa-waiver country, or if your country is visa-waiver but your visa-free stay does not cover the entire duration of the program, you will need to obtain a visa. When contacting the Japanese Embassy or Consulate-General, please tell them that you will participate in a 6-week program, and get advice for procedures, necessary documents, and types of visa. In most cases, students are advised to apply for 'Short-term Stay' visa (also called Temporary Visa).
If you are required to submit any documents issued by AIU to apply for a visa, please inform us the following points AFTER consulting the Japanese Embassy or Consulate where you are going to apply for a visa.
