Mr. Jahnke grew up in the south suburbs of Chicago and graduated from Thornwood High School in 2010. During high school, Mr. Jahnke was involved in a variety of sports and activities such as, Tennis, Swimming, Newspaper Editor, and the National Honors Society. During his senior year of high school he gave a presentation to a panel of teachers, as it was required for graduation. This presentation was developed throughout all four years of high school and focused on post-secondary options and considerations for colleges and careers. Needless to say, Mr. Jahnke gave an awesome presentation on how cool it would be to become a teacher and attend a university. Following high school graduation, Mr. Jahnke attended Northern Illinois University and began his journey into the world of education.
Mr. Jahnke graduated from Northern Illinois University in 2014. He received a Bachelors of Science in Education Degree with an emphasis in Special Education (Learning Behavior Specialist I). Mr. Jahnke is qualified to teach in the Special Education setting grades k-21 as well as co-teach in the general education setting with a content area teacher. During college, Mr. Jahnke completed clinical experience in varying levels of K-21 education within Rockford, Naperville, and Oregon, IL. During his program, he acquired a variety of skills essential for working within the field of special education. Mr. Jahnke focused intensively on developing Individualized education programs for students, writing measurable and observable annual goals, providing transition services in the classroom setting, and ensuring students progress. Mr Jahnke took a strong focus on data collection and documentation related to post secondary outcomes for students with disabilities. Mr. Jahnke began gaining experience in advocating for success for students entering the workplace, post-secondary education, and living independently after high school.
Mr. Jahnke completed his student teaching at Genoa Elementary School as well as Genoa-Kingston High School, where he embraced the school culture, built rapport with students, and collaborated with staff. Mr. Jahnke gratefully accepted a position within the district during his student teaching experience and began as a full time special educator in the 2014-2015 school year. Mr. Jahnke is now a third year teacher at Genoa-Kingston High School where he provides individualized instruction in Mathematics/Science to students receiving special education services and provides inclusion support to diverse earners through coteaching within the GKHS science department.
