GLHS Community Art  | Community Impact

The mission of the Gahanna Lincoln Community Art class is to work together to increase the presence of the Arts in the Gahanna community.  

Each year at the start of the class, the students spend several weeks brainstorming and developing ideas for projects that will positively impact the Gahanna community.  At this point, the sky’s the limit!  Then, as ideas develop, we work with our 11 Gahanna-Jefferson District schools, area businesses, and the City to see what will be feasible for that particular year.

Over the course of the last ten years, in addition to our annual events, the students in the GLHS Community Art class have made a tremendous positive artistic impact on the community. This course provides the students an opportunity to advocate for the Arts with the completion of their projects 

AND their City-wide events.

The following is a list of some of the student-created projects we have completed:

Murals and paintings at the following locations:

• Gahanna Lincoln High School 

  • Band room

  • Orchestra room

  • Entry to Auditorium

  • Back hallways

  • Entrance to Language Department

  • Hallway near the Little Theatre

  • Clinic

  • Art hallway 

  • Artwork for the GLHS Theatre productions

• Chapelfield Elementary

• High Point Elementary

• Lincoln Elementary

• Gahanna Middle School South

• Gahanna Middle School West

• Jefferson Elementary

• Clark Hall preschool

• Gahanna City Car Wash Mural

• Mifflin Presbyterian Church

• Collective Home Supply Co.

• Creekside Bridge Mural project involving ALL Gahanna Jefferson Schools (this project was completed three times in the last ten years). 14 murals installed under the Creekside Bridge near Mill Street.  The class organized this project including the priming of cloth, ordering and distributing paint and adhesive, raising money, installation, and ribbon cutting celebration

City projects:

• Creekside Bridge Murals (Organized the creation of 14 murals created by students in the Gahanna-Jefferson School District K-12)

• Gahanna Story Trail entry signs

• Pizzurro Park storage shed mural

• Pizzurro Park entry cylinder graphic mural

• Face-painting at Creepside and Holiday Lights events

• Mill Street Water Wall (3 times)

• Painted tombstones for Creepside event 

• Painted small city for Holiday Lights events

• Painted mobile murals on snow plow blades each year

Educational events:

• PTO Enrichment Day activities at several Elementary and Middle Schools

• Holiday projects with several Senior Living facilities

• Mosaic project with High Point students

Work for Gahanna Convention and Visitors Bureau:

• Floats for the Holiday Lights Parade

• Signage for Holiday Lights Parade

District-wide school event:

• Experience the Arts art shows at the Gahanna branch of the Columbus Library

• Face painting at football games and walkathons

All of these projects have been provided to our clients FREE due to our generous donors and our fund-raising activities.  

The Community Art students are self-motivated, creative, and hard-working students 

who are excited to make a positive impact wherever they can.
