Welcome to Upper School Literature
Kylee Marshall | Upper School English
I am a lover of words and have been a classroom teacher for over twenty years. I grew up in Montrose, CO on a sheep ranch and went to Mesa State College in the nineties. I later received my Master’s Degree in English Education from Colorado Christian University. In 2023, I published my first book, Of Dirt and Wildflowers: A Memoir on Growing the Courage to Bloom.
I have two grown children: my daughter, Rylee, will be graduating college this May with a degree in Exercise Science, and my son, Candon, recently graduated high school. I spend my free time reading, writing, and exploring in nature. Most importantly, I have a golden retriever named Thurston Douglas Green III. He is a distinguished gentleman who makes life golden.
It is my hope to kindle fires through the power of words. I am passionate about teaching and about cultivating not only capable students, but thoughtful human beings – students who love learning, seek truth, and have the courage to think deeply and live well.
GET TO KNOW ME
My favorite book is The Great Gatsby. Fitzgerald's symbolic writing captures me and makes me think deeply.
My favorite subject is Literature and Creative Writing. I can't choose. I love being immersed in another world just as much as I love creating one.
I love the way Ascent feels more like a family than a school. We are all here to better one another.
For fun, I hike year-round collecting heart rocks and wildflowers.
