What is NEMT?

AHCCCS covers non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) to and from medically necessary medical and behavioral health covered services. This service is available for members who are unable to provide or pay for their own transportation, when free transportation services are not available. 

AHCCCS covers NEMT to the nearest IHS/ 638 medical or behavioral health facility or to the nearest medical or behavioral health provider capable of meeting your needs. 

Gishey's Transport LLC may need to obtain approval (prior authorization) from AHCCCS before the transport occurs.

Qualifications for NEMT Driver

Applicants will not be considered for hiring unless all items are obtained.  Applicants must not have DUIs or recent speeding tickets on driving record. Documents must not be expired.

• Fill out an NEMT Driver Application.

• Copy of Arizona Driver’s License.

• Copy Social Security Card

• Fill out Motor Vehicle Record Disclosure and Release

• Copy of Arizona MVD record, Certified 5-year, within 30 days of application.

• Copy of Navajo Nation Criminal & Traffic Background Check.

  • Go to Navajo Nation Office of Background Investigations, Building 2740 Morgan Blvd, Window Rock, AZ 86515. Monday thru Friday, 8:00am to 12:00pm. Phone: (928) 871-7621

• Copy of Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card

  • Go online to www.azdps.gov/services/public/fingerprint to get more information.

• Pre-Employment Drug Test.

  • Applicant must complete a five-panel pre-employment drug and alcohol test before applicant can be hired.

• Copy of Department of Transportation Medical Examiner’s Certificate

• Copy of CPR and First Aid Training Certification.

  • Must be an approved CPR and First Aid training that provides hands on training. Online or other training that does not provide hands on training will not be accepted.

• Copy of HIPAA Training.

• Copy of Defensive Driver Training.

• Copy C.I.B.

  • Needed if working and living on the Navajo Reservation.
