Theatre Program Overview
For the aspiring young actor or designer, the Theatre program at Highland High School in Gilbert, AZ offers an intense, professionally-minded training program. Concentrations in acting, design, technical theatre, and theatre management are offered. Theatre training prepares students to enter into a professional career or college, providing students with many career choices. Theatre classes are open to all students with genuine interest.
Graduates are encouraged and prepared to apply towards continuing their post-secondary education or to enter the field of professional acting or stagecraft.
The experience of theatre arts is meant for all students as actors, designers, managers, or audiences.
The Theatre Program has a fresh curriculum, with a scope and sequence that offers beginning to advanced techniques in acting, voice, movement, dance, stagecraft, history, dramaturgy, stage management, lighting, sound, scenery, and costume design. The curriculum requires a high level of commitment from students who are expected to participate in after-school rehearsals and productions of main stage and other plays. Building a collaborative ensemble experience is of high priority and actors are trained in technical arts as well as technical and design students fulfilling requirements to understand the performance work. Each student is given a personalized experience based on their own effort, dedication, and interests.
