🎯 Arizona Math Standards

3.OA.A.3 Operations & Algebraic Thinking: Use multiplication and division within 100 to solve word problems in situations involving equal groups, arrays, and measurement quantities.

3.NBT.A.2 Number & Operations in Base Ten: Fluently add and subtract within 1000 using strategies and algorithms based on place value.

🏫 Theme Goal

To reinforce multiplication/division fluency and addition/subtraction skills within a contextually relevant "101" theme (101 points, counting spots, grouping puppies).

🧠 UDL & Scaffolding Rationale

• Two-Strike Scaffolding System:

  • Attempt 1 (Growth Mindset): If incorrect, the student receives a specific math hint (not just "wrong") and can try again for partial credit (50 points). This encourages persistence.

  • Attempt 2 (Cognitive Load): If incorrect a second time, the correct answer and explanation are revealed. This prevents frustration and ensures the student understands the concept before moving on.

• Multiple Means of Representation: Round 1 uses visual arrays (grouping spots/paws) to help students visualize multiplication before moving to text-based word problems in Round 2.

• Visual Clarity: High-contrast design and distinct buttons assist students with visual processing needs.
