Explanation of how numeracy is run in Mr Huggins' numeracy class for Whānau
We have numeracy four times a week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 11:20 until 12:30.
Every session kicks of with some warm-up questions/teaching with the whole class for around 10 minutes.
Then students are split into 3 groups, where they spend 15 minutes on each of the four stations below.
Mr Huggins station - This is where students are taught how to use new strategies to answer questions that they were not able to before.
Follow up station - This is where students will apply the teaching they have just received, to practice the new skills that they have learned.
Mathletics station - As a hub, we have all students subscribed to Mathletics, which is an online- mathematics program to support their current learning, as well as to revise previous learning to keep their mathematics skills current.
Prototec station - There is a website online, https://maths.prototec.co.nz/ where we have speed challenges at the different stages that we are trying to accomplish to work on the fluency of our various mathematics strategies.
