Explanation of how literacy is run in Mr Huggins' literacy class for Whānau
On Mondays, literacy begins at 9:30am, and 9:15am on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Our literacy lessons always begin with shared reading, where we read a text (could be a book, a song, a poem or something else).
After that, students are split into 4 different groups based on their reading levels, where they spend 15 minutes at each station that includes instructional reading with Mr. Huggins, solo reading time, StepsWeb (a online program geared to enhance students' literacy skills), and some time to work on the writing task of the week.
For the last 25 minutes, all students continue working on their writing tasks, with some time to share what we have accomplished with each other at the end of the session.
