Each year all band students have the opportunity to perform at a Gilbert hosted band festival. (Every band student is required to perform at this event.) Band festival is designed for students to perform in front of a judge to receive positive feedback and helpful hints from someone other than their band director. Each student will receive a rating and written comments for his/her effort and participation. Preparing for a performance of this type is a wonderful practice of self-discipline and responsibility and will ultimately help the student improve on his/her instrument. It is also very valuable in helping students to develop their public performance skills.
There are two dates for festival: February 19th or 24th from 4:30-8:30 pm. Each performance slot is about 10 minutes, and parents will be able to sign up for times that fit best with their schedule. Students will perform on only one of those nights. Again, students will perform within a 10 minute time slot, and parents will sign up for a time that fits best with their schedule. Both contests will take place at Gilbert Middle School.
As parents/guardians, you can help your son/daughter have a positive, educational experience by:
•Signing up early for a time slot so that it works best with your schedule (more info. to come)
•Encouraging your son/daughter to practice and prepare (music will be distributed approx. 2 months in advance)
•Supporting your son/daughter as an audience member on February 19th or 24th
