Last year we were able to raise $8,100 and we hope we can exceed that goal by making $9,000 this year!

Do you ever reach into your backpack for a quick snack?
8th grader, Amy Nguyen, craves her Dum Dum Pops, and I can not fail to agree. They have a variety of iconic flavors that appeal to millions of people. Another power snack she loves munching on is the famous Dubai Chocolate. She really likes the crunch and satisfying texture.
8th grader, Annie Lee, says that she loves Costco's green grapes. She adores these because they are scrumptious, juicy, and flavorful.
7th grader, Paisley Huynh, seems to really enjoy eating her most beloved power snack, Lay’s Limon Potato Chips. The lime and tangy citrus flavor is delightful.
- Sophie Nguyen (8th)
7th grader, Linh Le’s favorite sweet and savory snack of all time is Lindor’s Milk Chocolate Truffles. With a soft outer chocolate shell and a smooth ganache filling that melts it your mouth, this snack is truly delectable! She also enjoys a Vietnamese snack which translates to a rice paper mix. It melts in your mouth, this snack is one of the best!
7th grader, Ted Nguyen's favorite power snack is any type of spicy chip. He likes their pungent, spicy taste. With a flavorful kick, he enjoys the spicy powder residue that it leaves behind.

Ever tried to find a quick and easy solution for when you are being bullied or even trying to help others who are being targeted? Here are some helpful solutions according to students:
7th grader Mia Quezada would stand up for herself and speak up if she was being bullied. If she saw one of her peers or any other student in general being targeted, she would quickly take action and inform a trusted adult.
7th grader Madina Noori would ignore her bullies and not give them the reaction they want. Madina would also inform a trusted adult. If she saw someone else being bullied she would not be a bystander, instead she would have empathy and help the student who is being bullied.
If 7th grader Madison Olmedo saw a student getting bullied, she would tell the bully to leave the student alone or notify a nearby trusted adult to handle it. If she was the one being targeted she would also stand up for herself by not giving the bully the reaction he or she wants so eventually they can leave her alone.
Remember that you are not alone if facing bullying. Whether you are being targeted or witnessing it, there are multiple proactive steps you can take to stand up for yourself or others. Most importantly if you are witnessing bullying do not be a bystander, instead help others like you would want the help too.

We have gathered our Ralston bakers to tell us their favorite recipes. Starting with 8th grader Alexis Magana, with her favorite chocolate chip muffin recipe. This is a straightforward recipe that takes about 35 minutes and requires around 10 ingredients. This includes flour, baking soda, vegetable oil, chocolate chips, sugar, salt, milk, baking powder, vegetable oil/melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. According to Alexis, her main ingredient is chocolate chips! Alexis said she loves to bake because it is super fun, and loves to give out treats to her friends.
Another one of our great bakers is Sophia Alcanzarin, also in 8th grade. Her favorite thing to bake is her mom's recipe for brownies. This easy recipe only requires 50 minutes. The recipe has 9 ingredients, which include a semi-sweet chocolate baking bar, ½ cup of butter (unsalted), 1 cup brown sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 2 eggs, ¾ cup + 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour, ¼ teaspoon baking powder, ⅜ teaspoon salt, and ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips. Based on Sophia's reasoning, she said the main ingredient is the semi-sweet chocolate baking bar. Baking is something Sophia loves to do for her friends and also enjoys baking on her free time!

Where Did Our Staff Go to College?
7th grade P.E. teacher Ms.Potts attended Villanova University, a Division 1 College, on a full scholarship. She was inspired by her older brother who went there as well. Ms. Potts chose her major after having a great teacher in high school. She felt supported by her in and out of the classroom, which made her want to be that kind of person, too. She would loved to babysit children. Ms. Potts also shared that when it got cold in the winter and there would be so much ice and snow, that the campus closed for an entire week! Another interesting thing about the college campus is that there is a train station that runs right through the center of the campus which makes it easy to get to Philadelphia!
-Candice Ilano (8th)
Mr. Schreiner tells us that he attended Cal State Long Beach, because he wanted to be by the beach and his best friend was there too. He said that the weather and location was perfect for him! Since he loved learning about the human body and the capabilities of the brain and mind, he decided to major in Kinesiology. Afterwards, he received his Education Specialist teaching credential and a Master of Science in Special Education. GO SHARKS!
-Sophie Nguyen (8th)
Our counselor Miss Garcia attended UCI because it was close to her home. She believed that UCI was in a good place because it was “clean, safe, awesome, and sunny.” She also enjoyed the outdoors so the campus was perfect for her. She also liked that the school offered internships, clubs, sports, and a beautiful campus. She majored in psychology.
