Year 12/13: FOLIO Planning
Term 3 Week 1
BRAINSTORM IDEAS
Lesson 1:
Collect visual diaries. Collect work from internals, receive marksheets
Peer feedback to each other about 1) theme (why is it important to you? significance of subject? 2) show example of work you are most proud of 3) artist model you have selected and key conventions.
Hand out folio guidelines and planner, read through. Refer to this website to find information (bookmark if you have not already)
Lesson 2/3/4:
Make up folio boards
Layout final works on folio board:
Sculptors: photograph work from at least 3 different angles against plain white background and consider lighting or environment, layout photos on Photoshop, print.
Painters: photocopy best work and blue tac onto board.
Photographers: asterix in visual diary very best from work so far. Layout on folio page in Photoshop, print on A3s.
PLAN IDEAS using Planning Doc print and annotate in visual diary:
Go through visual diary. Make sure all work is clearly and well presented. Write about how you can extend the work you have already done: to improve and build on ideas. Sculptors and Painters: collect further reference material.
Select artist models to help develop each idea / composition
Describe new ideas (see example below)
Make bullet points about process (methods, media, techniques) you are going to use
Create compositional / planning sketches
Complete a new series of related work (1-2 Level 2, 2-3 Level 3) every 2 weeks!
Planning doc (below) of at least 2-3 ideas due by end of week 1
EXAMPLE:
LOOK AT PRESENTATION
Time management plan
Use the folio template planner. Develop one series of work every 2 weeks this term = 5 series.
ISMART Goal setting:

PAINTING
You can keep working with your same artist models from 2.2/3.2 to develop your first series (look at more examples of their work online, select and print, glue in visual diary. To develop, extend, clarify, regenerate your ideas it is recommended that you combine artist model 1 and 2 conventions. Or you could select a different artist model(s) and conventions per related series of ideas.
Please look at useful guides below:
PAINTING
Photocopy your work to date and with your Teacher, arrange and blue tac on board.
Have examples of artist model work printed: Identify the key features of the artist's conventions
Have reference photographs/images printed.
Use conventions: conceptual, compositional and technical conventions of your selected artist model and create compositional sketches to plan next series.
Note: If your subject is portraiture or figurative: consider expressions of your models for example and photograph them or find reference material that is actually of someone screaming if that's what your idea represents, plus other expressions that develop your theme.
Use an advanced and cohesive colour palette to support your theme / mood.
Consider various formats per related series
You can decide formats by taking measurements from folio board. You can also work large scale and photograph your work to present on folio. Firstly prepare your backgrounds for the series and work in a layered approach starting with ground layers, instead of working on a white canvas. Try working on 2-3 related series of works at a time.
