A volunteering programme feels genuine when there is a clear reason your company chose this cause. Employees are more engaged when they can explain that reason in one sentence.
Look at what your company already says publicly about sustainability, education, inclusion or community. A cause connected to those statements is easier to explain internally and easier to sustain year after year.
Does the organisation already host corporate volunteers, and how many at a time?
What preparation do they require, such as briefings, age limits or health declarations?
Can they tell you what a useful contribution looks like for them?
Are there periods when they especially need, or especially cannot take, volunteers?
High-output tasks like food sorting or pack assembly suit bigger groups split into stations. Person-to-person formats such as eldercare or befriending work best with small groups across several sessions, because meaningful interaction is hard when too many visitors arrive at once.
One-off volunteering is a good start. A recurring commitment with the same partner, even a few sessions a year, usually creates more value for the beneficiary and gives employees continuity.
Get Out! Events lists the charity build, environmental and community engagement formats it plans on its corporate volunteering and CSR activities page. It is a useful reference when you are comparing what is practical for your group size.
