I think that Visual Literacy fits into all of the topics that we have covered so far in our Teacher Leader Cohort. It relates to our discussion of Global Collaboration because it allows you another way to reach out and communicate ideas with others. You can send a visual tweet that would be as or more effective than just using words. For Assessment, students have another way to share what they know or have learned by creating something that shares their thinking. For Flipped Learning, it allows the students another option to share their thoughts and ideas with others and have more control over how they can communicate their learning.
I believe that what I learned through Visual Literacy will enhance my classroom. Using visuals has been an effective way to communicate with my students and help them learn. I have worked with a lot of second language speakers in my classroom, and if I can use visuals to support my instruction, I find that it makes the learning more comprehensible for them. The ideas and tools shared in this course have allowed me to see an increased importance and necessity for focusing on Visual Literacy. Becoming visually literate is not only important for me as their teacher, but it is also important for my students to learn as they interact more in a digital world filled with images.
