Greetings TCGIS basketball players, parents, and fans! My name is Scott Meyer and, in addition to my daily duties as our Front Office Receptionist here at TCGIS, I’ve been honored with the opportunity to serve our 7th and 8th grade student athletes as the team’s assistant basketball coach. I spent much of my youth with a basketball in my hand, aided by the year-round warm weather that came with growing up in South Carolina. In addition to hundreds of hours spent on the outdoor courts of the Charleston area, I played Point Guard at the high school level. I am very excited to bring my effort and experience to assist Head Coach Orsted in making this a fun and rewarding season for our student athletes and fans.
Basketball has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. I started playing at a young age, often practicing with my family in the driveway and watching games together as a way to bond and learn. Over the years, my love for the sport has continued to grow. I’m a regular at Timberwolves and Lynx games, and I always root for my hometown teams—the Atlanta Hawks and the Atlanta Dream.
My desire to coach was sparked by watching the legendary Pat Summitt. Her leadership, strength, and impact on her players deeply inspired me, and I became an avid follower of her teams—especially standout player Candace Parker. Watching them helped me realize how powerful basketball can be in building confidence, teamwork, and resilience, particularly in young athletes.
I’ve been coaching at TCGIS for four years now, and it’s been an incredibly rewarding journey. My goal as a coach is not only to teach the fundamentals of basketball, but also to help students grow as individuals. I believe in creating a positive, inclusive environment where every player feels valued, supported, and motivated to push themselves both on and off the court.
Basketball has taught me life lessons about perseverance, communication, and leadership—and I’m passionate about passing those lessons on to the next generation. Whether we’re running drills or celebrating a hard-earned win, I want every student I coach to walk away with a deeper love for the game and a stronger sense of self-confidence.
Coach Braunmiller played basketball from 4th grade through the end of high school as a shooting guard and still enjoys playing and watching basketball in her free time. She loves watching the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Target Center each season and also cheers for the Orlando Magic as her second favorite team because of Franz and Moritz Wagner who are both Germans and attended the same college as her (University of Michigan, Go Blue!). Coach Braunmiller has played and coached basketball, softball, and tennis in the past and started coaching soccer at TCGIS this year as well. In her free time, Coach Braunmiller enjoys reading, traveling, spending time outdoors, and playing with her 4 year old daughter, Pippa, and her dog, Hamlet.
I have loved basketball since I was five years old, when I joined a team as the only girl and scored exactly one basket all season. It happened in the final game, and I stuck with it from then on. What captured me was the team effort, the strategy, and the trust that develops when players work together toward a shared goal.
Later I got the chance to attend a specialized post player camp led by the legendary Pat Head Summitt during the height of the Tennessee Lady Vols’ dominance. I had the opportunity to learn from Chamique Holdsclaw and her incredible teammates, and that experience shaped my understanding of the joy of the team game, excellence, and leadership.
In high school, I helped lead my team to its first ever state tournament appearance, where we placed second in the state. A teammate and I were selected for All Tournament recognition and after that I knew I’d always want to help young people feel the pride, camaraderie, and the thrill of teamwork that basketball gave me for all those years. The next year I started my coaching journey when I was hired as head middle school basketball coach for Sanford Middle School in Minneapolis. For over a decade I coached middle school teams in Minneapolis, Forest Lake and Eden Prairie. I love helping players identify their particular growing edge, whether that is confidence, ball-handling skills, play-making, power moves in the post, or trusting their instincts under pressure. In my professional life, I coach nonprofit leaders through my work with Staiger | Vitelli & Associates, so coaching truly sits at the heart of everything I do. I am thrilled to bring my experience and love of team dynamics to TCGIS basketball.
