I am passionate about supporting undergraduate mathematics students – future teachers or other majors – in

  • mathematical creativity and critical thinking

  • connection-making and flexibility in concept visualization

  • critical use of mathematics to investigate professional and everyday worlds, connecting with student interests, backgrounds, and lived experiences outside of math class

  • how to study math & manage time

  • discussing the value of mindsets, mistakes, and discomfort in mathematics

  • exploring and using multiple representations, assumptions, strategies, and potential solutions

  • using computer software, online tools, and other online resources

To open access to math for all my students, especially those from communities in which access has traditionally been blocked, I use AMTE’s (2017) Standards for Preparing Teachers of Math & MAA’s (2018) Instructional Practices Guide.
