Research

I focus on supporting students’ (both mathematics learners and future teachers) development in learning how to learn, choose tools wisely, and engage mathematically with the world outside the classroom. As such, I focus my research on four overlapping areas: (1) how to support students in developing their self-reliance as learners of mathematics; (2) how to use language, representations, and technologies productively to support student learning; (3) how to use authentic real-world contexts to support students’ use of creativity, problem-solving, and funds of knowledge; and (4) how to integrate diversity and inclusion in math classrooms to support all learners.
